The History of Reiki

Reiki was developed in Japan early in the 19th Century – 1865 – 1926 by Mikao Usui.

Usui was a seeker of knowledge and spiritual understanding. He studied disciplines such as history, religion, medicine, psychology and metaphysics and broadened his world view through travel to Europe and China.

Although Usui asserted Reiki to be a spiritual method of healing, it is not dependent upon or affiliated with any religious organisation, dogma or doctrine. Today it is practised throughout the world by people of many faiths and cultures.

Usui established clinics in Tokyo and travelled throughout Japan healing the sick and teaching his healing method. He became known throughout the country for his service to the injured following the massive earthquake of 1923.

Usui trained more than 2000 students and 20 teachers prior to his death in 1926 at the age of 62.

Practitioners are trained to channel the universal life force energy – which flows around and through every living being – to where it is needed, in order to restore balance and harmony and enhancing our sense of well-being.

Reiki is simple and effective – it enables the body to heal itself and can help with a wide range of disorders in humans and can also benefit our four-legged friends. Benefits can include:

• Relief of stress & anxiety
• Balances mood
• Increased energy levels
• Improved sleep patterns
• Pain relief
• Promotes deep relaxation
• Emotional support during recovery

Meet Your Reiki Practitioner

Following a lifelong interest in health and well-being, my journey into Reiki began in 2018. There were two catalysts really. It felt like a natural development from 12 years of practicing remedial massage – a next step in helping with the stress, tension and pain I was seeing on a daily basis.

Also, my beloved dog Daisy started limping – it turned out she’d had a bone infection and could have been in pain for 12-18 months before she presented with symptoms. This led me down the path of wanting to understand and help with pain, health and anxiety issues in animals.

Over the past 5 years, I have attained Reiki I, Reiki II, and a Centre of Excellence qualification in Canine Reiki. I am now a Reiki Master, practicing the power of Reiki on both people and animals. Based in South Devon, I am able to help with a wide range of health and wellbeing issues including relief of pain, anxiety, fatigue, tension, insomnia, and depression, whilst promoting relaxation, energy, and general well-being.
